Who is Listening to the American People on Jobs & Spending? Not Senate Democrats

Posted by staffwriter

Who is listening to the American people? Not Senate Democrats. While the Democrats running Washington are rooting for a government shutdown and working with an “army of lobbyists” to defeat GOP spending cuts that economists agree are needed to help create a better environment for job creation, a new Gallup survey found a clear majority of the American people agree with the Republican plan to keep the government running and cut spending.

USA Today reports that “Americans by 2-to-1” want to avoid a government shutdown and that “there is wide public support for spending cuts that go beyond those President Obama is proposing…” Read the whole article here.

These results mirror other recent surveys that show Americans believe spending cuts – not more “stimulus” spending – will create a better a better environment for job growth. According to Bloomberg News, “50 percent of voters cited cutting federal spending as the top priority for improving the economy.” And according to Resurgent Republic’s Luke Frans, 61 percent of voters say cutting spending is a better way “to help the economy recover.”

Despite the failure (refusal?) of Senate Democrats to act, the House has already passed legislation that would keep the government running while cutting spending. And it is poised to pass another short-term funding bill that would fund the government while making spending cuts wanted by the American people. House Republicans are listening to the American people; Senate Democrats might as well be fleeing to Illinois.

As Speaker Boehner said, “Americans understand we need to stop the spending binge in Washington to create a better environment for job creation. So I ask Senator Reid, with all due respect: what are you willing to cut?”
